Abstract

|
Malignant glomus tumor, or glomangiosarcoma, is a very rare cutaneous neoplasm. Most malignant glomus tumors do not metastasize in spite of exhibiting the histologic features of malignancy. While the existence of solitary and multiple benign glomus tumors is a well recognized phenomenon in dermatology, the development of its malignant counterpart in the skin is a rare occurrence. When seen, malignant glomus tumor typically arises as painful dermal nodules with a predilection for the lower extremities. This disease is often fatal when metastasis occurs. We experienced a case of a malignant glomus tumor arising on the chest wall and it metastasized to the lung parenchyma as well as pleura in an 50-year-old woman. Doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide combination chemotherapy were administered with minimal response. We report here on this case and we also review the literature concerning malignant glomus tumor.(Korean J Med 71:S1101-S1104, 2006)
